Resolution Inspiration Categories
Making a new year’s resolution is the easy part, but making it happen is a completely different story. To give yourself the best chance at success, you need to be passionate about the thing that you choose. You also need to set a goal that you can see yourself making progress on.
Read more about how to set a New Year’s Resolution that actually works here in our recent blog. But in the meantime, let these resolution categories give you some inspiration:
If the constant call of wanderlust beckons you to distant shores, then you might choose to set a travel goal this year.
Here are some things to think about:
- Is there somewhere you have always wanted to visit, but never quite got there?
- Do you want to find out more about your heritage?
- Is there something that you have been dying to do and you can only do it in one location?
- Do you long to feel sand or snow beneath your toes?
- Is there a foreign culture or cuisine that fascinates you and you want to immerse yourself in it?
In order to achieve your travel goal, you might need to set a second goal to help you get there. Such as something from the money category, or something from self care to allow you to have the money for the trip and time away from your responsibilities.
They say that money doesn’t make the world go round, but it sure is nice to have some of it in your back pocket. So you might decide that you want to set a goal that improves your money situation. There are lots of things you can do, even if you only have a little.
Save: Set yourself a target to save each month. It is a good idea to transfer the money you intend to save into a separate account so that you don’t accidentally spend it.
Invest: Exploring your investment options can grow your money. Some are low risk like a term deposit at your bank, but some are higher risk, so do your research before diving in.
Budget: If you feel like your money disappears into thin air, then it is time to be more careful and work on a budget. Knowing exactly what you have allows you to use it wisely.
Pay Rise: Is it time to step out of your comfort zone and go for a better job role? Maybe you are due a pay rise and you need to discuss that with your manager. Or it could be that you have got all that you can from your current job and it is time to move on.
Whatever you choose for your money goal, make sure you are clear on what you want to achieve. Make it a measurable goal like saving $200 a month. Then you can easily tell if you are making progress.
Health & Fitness
Christmas is traditionally a time of over indulging, so health and wellbeing are probably at the top of your mind for the new year. But health and fitness goals don’t always need to be about weight loss if you don’t want them to be. You can tackle so many aspects of your life with a healthier mindset.
Weight Loss: This is the number one health goal and most people resolve that they will lose weight in the new year. To do this successfully, you need to find the method that works for you and the motivation to keep you going.
Improve Fitness: Whether you want to play with your kids, better your swimming skills, or run a half marathon, your body will thank you for being active.
It can be a difficult thing learning to love your body as there might be parts that you are not happy with. However, your body is all kinds of amazing and helps you get through everything that you need to in a day. So it is alright to love it, even with those lumps and bumps!
Between work, family, friends, pets, commitments and goodness knows what else, there isn’t always a lot of time left to look after you. Prioritising self care means that you are prioritising your own self worth. Take a little bit of time for self care and you will feel like you can move mountains.
Gratitude: Practicing gratitude can affect the way you think about things. It can remove negativity from your mindset very quickly and change your perspective for the better. It allows you to count your blessings and focus on the great things already in your life.
Positive Mindset: Having a glass that is half full is far better than having one that is half empty. Thinking positively improves your mood and lowers the risks of depression and anxiety.
Confidence: Having confidence in yourself will remove fear and hesitation. You will be able to go after your goals and trust your own abilities.
Do you long to be your own boss? Or, maybe you want to turn that hobby business into something grander. This could be your year to do just that if you set your mind to it.
The way to do it is to set yourself a plan on how you are going to get there.
Whether you are launching a full scale business, or you want to dabble in a side gig, you will need to keep yourself on track if you want to succeed.
Devise a loose business plan and then set yourself targets to achieve for each month.
When you gaze into your crystal ball, what do you want the end of this new year to look like. What will you be doing, how will you have done it, and how will it make you feel? That feeling of success might be what drives you to turn your resolution into a reality.
